بیمارستان دامپزشکی مرکزی

Tehran Central Veterinary Hospital is proud to be the first private veterinary center in Iran to be equipped with a DR (Digital Radiography) system. The advantages of this advanced imaging technology include:Minimal radiation exposure to the patientElimination of wait time for film developmentExceptional image clarity and diagnostic precisionAll radiation safety standards mandated by the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran have been strictly implemented in this department, ensuring that there is no radiation leakage or risk to clients or staff. The hospital has also taken a major step forward in accurate disease diagnosis by equipping its imaging unit with state-of-the-art ultrasound systems. When needed, ultrasound-guided biopsies can be performed on detected lesions to assist in definitive diagnosis. All services in this department are provided by board-certified diagnostic imaging specialists. The department offers the following services, provided by experienced radiologists:
  • Radiography of the musculoskeletal system
  • Plain (non-contrast) radiographs of the abdomen and thorax
  • Contrast radiography of the gastrointestinal tract
  • Positive and negative cystography
  • Intravenous Pyelography (IVP)
  • Myelography
  • Jaw and dental radiography
  • Pregnancy diagnosis, fetal count, and age estimation

Diagnostic Imaging

Imaging is one of the most critical diagnostic departments in any veterinary hospital. In many cases, the attending veterinarian cannot reach a final diagnosis without the aid of radiographic or ultrasound images.

Tehran Central Veterinary Hospital has equipped its imaging department with cutting-edge technology and is open daily from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM to serve your beloved companions. Outside of these hours, on-call imaging specialists are available and will promptly arrive at the hospital when urgent imaging is required.

One of the unique features of our imaging department is the PACS system, which allows veterinarians across the country to access imaging results via the internet. This system enables pet guardians to easily consult with other veterinary professionals regarding their pet’s condition.

We offer a wide range of diagnostic imaging services, including:

1. Radiography (X-ray)

We perform all routine and advanced radiographic techniques daily.
Specialized imaging procedures such as contrast radiography, double-contrast studies, and fistulography are also available at our facility.

2. Ultrasonography

Ultrasound can be performed on all abdominal organs.
We also offer Color Doppler ultrasound for evaluating arteries and veins in various limbs and organs.
Additionally, ultrasound-guided interventional procedures, such as biopsies or intralesional injections, are performed in this department.

Because X-rays can pose a potential risk to personnel and clients, Tehran Central Veterinary Hospital ensures full compliance with radiation safety protocols. All necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) is provided, and the department operates under the continuous supervision of the Radiation Protection Division of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran. We consistently pass dosimetry tests at the highest safety standards.

Frequently Questions

What areas are included in the specialized imaging department?
Radiology (X-ray) Ultrasonography Echocardiography CT Scan (Computed Tomography) MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
What should be considered when taking radiographs (X-rays)?
Persons under the age of 18 and pregnant women are not allowed to enter the radiography room. This is due to the fact that growth plates in children are still open, and exposure to radiation could be harmful. The radiation dose used is carefully controlled and targeted only to the specific area being examined—it is not applied to the entire body of the patient. Anyone assisting in restraining the animal during the radiographic procedure must wear lead protective gear and must not be directly exposed to the X-ray beam.
What is the difference between radiology and ultrasound imaging?
The basis of ultrasound imaging is the use of harmless sound waves (ultrasound), while X-ray imaging relies on ionizing radiation, which can pose risks if proper safety measures are not followed. In radiology, X-rays are directed at the patient’s body to create images. In ultrasonography, images are produced using high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound), which are non-ionizing and safe. Therefore, while both methods are valuable diagnostic tools, strict safety protocols must be observed during X-ray procedures, whereas ultrasound is generally considered risk-free for both the patient and the operator.
What are the preparation steps for radiography and ultrasound?
Radiography (X-ray) Preparation Since X-rays have high penetrating power, no special preparation is usually required. However, the following points should be observed: If the pet is wearing any clothing or accessories (such as sweaters, collars, or harnesses), they must be removed. No foreign objects should be on the body, as they may appear on the image and be mistaken for abnormal structures (artifacts). The pet's coat should be checked for debris like feces, sticks, stones, or other objects that may be trapped in the fur. Proper positioning is critical. At least two views—typically lateral and ventrodorsal—should be taken. Depending on the case, the radiologist may request additional views to reach a clear and accurate diagnosis.
