Surgery and Anesthesia Department

In many cases, surgery is the only path to saving a patient’s life. That’s why this department carries a great deal of responsibility—after all, the life of a beloved family member is placed directly in the hands of a surgeon. The surgical and operating room staff at Tehran Central Veterinary Hospital fully understand the significance of this responsibility and dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to restoring peace of mind to your family.

In addition to our skilled, experienced, and highly capable personnel, considerable effort has gone into equipping this department with the necessary tools to ensure surgeries are performed to the highest standards. This includes a full range of surgical instrument sets for procedures involving soft tissues, bones, and nerves. Furthermore, intraoperative radiography is available in the operating room to ensure precise placement of implants during surgery.

Anesthesia in this department is provided according to the highest standards. Our equipment includes inhalation anesthesia machines, cardiac monitors, blood pressure monitors, pulse oximetry, capnography, and anesthetic gas analyzers. When such advanced tools are placed in the hands of an expert anesthesiologist, even the most high-risk anesthesia cases can be managed with minimal risk.

The operating room at our hospital has seen countless complex cases—patients who had lost hope elsewhere, but found healing here. Many of them underwent surgeries that had rarely or never been performed in the country, and they were able to recover and return to the loving arms of their families.

Frequently Questions

Is it necessary for my pet to be hospitalized after surgery?
Patients who undergo major surgery generally need to be hospitalized for at least one night. This allows us to closely monitor their condition and prevent potential complications. Additionally, during this period, we can provide more effective pain management, as the administration of certain pain medications is typically only permitted within medical facilities.
Can I see my pet immediately after surgery?
We understand your anxiety and concern regarding your beloved pet’s surgery. Our goal is to ensure that your pet recovers from anesthesia as calmly and safely as possible, and as quickly as their condition allows. In some cases, immediate visitation right after surgery can interfere with this delicate recovery process. However, we always make arrangements for you to see your pet after they have regained consciousness and before they are transferred to the hospitalization or intensive care unit.
What care should I provide for my pet at home after discharge?
All necessary instructions for your pet’s at-home recovery will be clearly explained to you by the attending veterinarian and hospital nursing staff. Additionally, if you have any questions regarding post-operative care, you are welcome to contact the hospital by phone at any time.
How long will my pet’s surgery take?
The duration of surgery varies depending on the type of animal and the nature of the procedure.
What does restricting my pet’s movement after surgery mean?
By restricting movement, we mean preventing your pet from running, jumping, or going up and down stairs. Additionally, playing with other animals or children during this period can be risky and may cause harm, so it should be strictly avoided.
Is it necessary to return to the hospital for suture removal, or can another veterinarian do it?
For your convenience, suture removal can be done by another veterinarian. However, your surgeon prefers to perform it personally, as it provides an important opportunity to examine your pet, assess the healing process, and check for any potential complications.
Do I need to apply anything to the suture line?
Normally, the skin heals quickly on its own, and there is no need to apply any special ointments or creams. In certain cases, however, your veterinarian may recommend the use of specific medications based on their professional assessment.
When can I give my pet their first bath after surgery?
If your pet does not have any bandages or dressings, bathing is generally allowed after the sutures have been removed. However, if there are any bandages or wound dressings in place, your pet should not be bathed until they have been removed.
What should I feed my pet after surgery?
We generally recommend feeding your pet pâté-style (soft, easily digestible) foods after surgery. However, if a specific diet is required based on the type of surgery, we will inform you accordingly. In general—especially after orthopedic surgeries—it is important to reduce your pet’s daily food intake by approximately 20% to help prevent weight gain during the recovery period.
What should I do if my pet’s bandage becomes wet or damp?
If the bandage becomes wet for any reason, it must be replaced immediately. If you are unable to bring your pet to the hospital within a short period of time, it is best to remove the bandage yourself to prevent further complications.
